  • Will Mitt Romney's Mormonism be a major campaign issue?

The Obama campaign is talking more about Bain Capital, which makes sense. Religion is touchy territory. But I think a lot of American Christians lack a strong understanding of some of the basic tenets of the Mormon religion. Romney claims to be a Christian, but that is arguable at best. All Christians, from the most liberal Protestants to the most conservative Evangelicals, believe in the same basic set of "facts" about Jesus Christ. Mormons are not on that spectrum. They believe Jesus appeared in Missouri, and that he will appear there again someday. They also believe that white people predate American Indians on the North American continent, and some other pretty loopy stuff. I just wonder how much of this stuff will be widely publicized prior to November.

  • Porn actress who worked in the adult industry for a decade is now trying to land a real world job and is having a ''hard'' time

Being in the adult business guaranteed one thing (two, if you count contracting some sort of STD). As an adult performer, it's never too hard to find work. Because of that, I didn't understand the economic crisis the rest of the world seemed to be suffering. Now, over 15 months out of the porn business, enrolled in a junior college and ready to move into the next stage of my life, it's time to start applying for jobs equally as structured as my school schedule. Unfortunately, due to a ten year absence from the real world work force, and a somewhat questionable work history, I'm finding it quite difficult to land a steady job. In fact, it's difficult to find anything at all, steady or not. And it seems I am not alone. So while I'm not in school I spend my time, like the rest of the jobless folks in Los Angeles, sweeping the city streets for signs of waitressing jobs, barista positions, booze running girl spots in nightclubs and larger size fetcher gigs in retail stores. I glue my eyes to the computer; Craigslist and helpwanted ads burn my retinas and sour my mood with each tap of the send button, a vague and motivated resume attached with hope. And though my search has been going on for less than two weeks, I feel my spirit dying, the drive to be self-sufficient abandons the need to stay within the line of work (writing) I wish to make my career. And I can't help but wonder... For me, giving up would be returning to a life I've already decided I do not want, so it's back to the streets of LA in search of "Help Wanted" signs and a hunt on the internet, where most life and the jobs therein seem to reside. I tip my hat to those of you who haven't given up yet, to the courageously unemployed.

  • Jane Pratt - Anyone here know her?

She claims to have dated Drew Barrymore and Michale Stipe. She has a radio show on Sirius/XM and is one of the worst name droppers I have ever heard, always going on and on about her celebrity friends. • Obama has enthusiasm edge in new poll

5/22/12 A new Washington Post/ABC News poll found 93 percent of Obama supporters are enthusiastic about voting for him, compared to 75 percent of Mitt Romney's supporters who are enthusiastic about casting ballots for him. Of Obama's supporters, 51 percent are very enthusiastic, while 26 percent of Romney's are very enthusiastic. The numbers are similar to those for Obama and McCain at this point in the 2008 race, with Obama's enthusiasm at 91 percent and McCain's at 74 percent. The new poll, which found Obama leading 49-46 if the election were held today, also measured voters' feelings about Romney's Bain experience with some surprising results. When asked about his work "buying and restructuring companies," voters were split with 21 percent saying it was a major reason to vote for him and 21 percent saying is was a major reason to vote against him. More than half -- 54 percent -- said it wasn't a factor at all. The poll surveyed a random sample of 1,004 adults between May 17 and 20.

  • Virgin Atlantic to Allow Cellphone Calls During Flights

LONDON -- Virgin Atlantic will now allow passengers to make and receive cell phone calls while in flight. The privilege is only available on certain flights and only six passengers at a time will be able to use the system. According to the airline, the new call rule is intended only "for use in exceptional situations." Passengers will be able to send text messages, make a call or access email on mobile devices. Initially, the service, which utilizes a satellite connection, will only be available for customers of European cell phone providers O2 and Vodafone and U.S. carrier T-Mobile. The service debuted Tuesday on the airline's new Airbus A330-300 planes flying between New York and London. The airline won't charge extra for the service, but cell phone users will be charged their carrier's international roaming rates. Dubai-based Emirates became the first carrier to allow passengers to use their personal cell phones back in 2008. This new phone service is part of a larger $160 million dollar upgrade of the airline's Upper Class cabin, although it will be also available to passengers in coach. Calls are not permitted during take-off or landing or within 250 miles of U.S. airspace.

  • Bruce Willis: "Mitt Romney is such a disappointment, an embarrassment. Chin up, hair up."

Bruce Willis revealed his thoughts on Mitt Romney in a recent interview, describing the GOP presidential hopeful as a "disappointment" and an "embarrassment." The feature, which was published today on Esquire.com, shows Willis -- who once publicly backed George H.W. Bush -- as frustrated with the state of the current Republican party. "He's just such a disappointment, an embarrassment. Chin up, hair up," Willis says of Romney. "He's just one of those guys, one of those guys who says he's going to change everything. And he'll get in there, and they'll smile at him and introduce themselves: 'We're Congress, we make sure nothing changes.' He won't do it. He can't. Everybody wants to be Barack Obama. And what did he change?" Willis also said he doesn't believe Romney can win, but added that he doesn't really care. According to THR, Willis' political views have often shifted. He supported Democrat Michael Dukakis in 1988 before throwing his weight behind both Presidents Bush. By 2006, however, he was telling reporters that though he was "always being accused of being a Hollywood Republican," he was not. The "Die Hard" and "Sixth Sense" actor has advocated for families who adopt foster children for over a decade and partnered with the Bush family on that cause. Earlier this year, he announced plans to donate his central Idaho ski resort to a nonprofit, if he can find one that meets his requirements.

  • Hollywood witches Part 2.

Tuesday Weld. What do we know about her? Well, there is a long forgotten book, "Popular Witchcraft," which was published by Bowling Green University Press in 1972. In it Anton LaVey in an interview says that his book "The Satanic Bible" was partially dedicated to Tuesday because "she was the embodiment of the goddess," and was "part of the ritual." The September 1959 issue of Coronet that supplied today's cover girl also contained many disturbing exploitive photographs of not-quite-sixteen Tuesday Weld: At the age of 15 she was chosen as the new queen and high priestess of the Druids. The initiation rite that signalled her ascension into leadership was the plane crash that carried Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper to their deaths in February of 1958. According the Turner, the plane had been sabotaged by backers of Weld as part of this ritual which signifed her inauguration as Illuminati Queen and High Priestess. She remained in that postion until 1991. Ruby Tuesday? You got it. Tuesday Weld And there is so much more. One question. Anyone know anything about a female around Tuesday's age who appears to be a concerned community activist with important connections and influence in political circles? Frojm Santa Cruz.

  • Trailer: 'The Master' PT Anderson's Thinly Veiled Film about Scientology

The Weinsteins showed a clip reel at Cannes and this is what we know about the film: Joaquin Phoenix plays Freddie Quell who comes in the orbit of the enigmatic leader of a -- religion? cult? -- led by Philip Seymour Hoffman. [quote]Wearing a pencil moustache and carrying an air of ambition and importance, not only does Hoffman look like L. Ron Hubbard, in the reel we saw, he describes himself as (among many other things) a writer, doctor and theoretical physicist. Those are all terms that have been used to describe Hubbard over the years. And there are more clues throughout, including some scenes from a very confident looking Amy Adams, who plays Hoffman's wife Mary-Sue, saying that the the "only way to defend ourselves, is to attack." Sound like any lawsuit happy religious group you've heard of? And the final scene we were shown might as well be from an auditing session, with Hoffman's leader peppering Freddie Quell with a serious of personality test style questions. So excited for this! What will the crazy Hollywood Scientologists say about this? They don't name Scientology specifically in the film, so can they still sue? If I were PT Anderson, I'd get some high level security. Good to see Joaquin back, he's a superb actor.
