While the progressive leader later backed off the criticisms, Republicans have been quick to highlight his comments as an attack against the idea that scrutiny of Mitt Romney’s record as a businessman is fair game. A ThinkProgress examination of New Jersey campaign finance records for Booker’s first run for Mayor — back in 2002 — suggests a possible reason for his unease with attacks on Bain Capital and venture capital. They were among his earliest and most generous backers. Contributions to his 2002 campaign from venture capitalists, investors, and big Wall Street bankers brought him more than $115,000 for his 2002 campaign. Among those contributing to his campaign were John Connaughton ($2,000), Steve Pagliuca ($2,200), Jonathan Lavine ($1,000) — all of Bain Capital. While the forms are not totally clear, it appears the campaign raised less than $800,000 total, making this a significant percentage. He and his slate also jointly raised funds for the “Booker Team for Newark” joint committee. They received more than $450,000 for the 2002 campaign from the sector — including a pair of $15,400 contributions from Bain Capital Managing Directors Joshua Bekenstein and Mark Nunnelly. It appears that for the initial campaign and runoff, the slate raised less than $4 million — again making this a sizable chunk. In all — just in his first Mayoral run — Booker’s committees received more than $565,000 from the people he was defending. At least $36,000 of that came from folks at Romney’s old firm.

"What we will be doing is making people aware there's hiring going on and reminding them that they have an obligation to apply for available work and to take it if they're going to qualify for EI," Kenney said. "It makes no sense to bring in people from abroad when there are Canadians just across the street willing to do the work," Kenney's spokeswoman Alexis Pavlich told Postmedia News Thursday. Missing FBI agent armed and suicidal, police believe May 13, 2012 | 7:19 am A missing FBI agent from Burbank, believed to be suicidal and possibly carrying a handgun, has become the subject of a major manhunt this weekend. Stephen Ivens, 35, a Los Angeles-based agent specializing in national security, was last seen Friday at his home in the 1700 block of Scott Road in Burbank. He may have headed into the rugged Verdugo Mountains, officials said. Also missing from the home he shared with his wife and 1-year-old son is his handgun, officials said. Officials would not reveal why they believe Ivens may be suicidal. “He’s been a valuable member of our office,” said FBI Special Agent Steve Gomez. A 40-member search-and-rescue team from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department along with a dozen Burbank police officers were assisting about 100 FBI agents in the search, officials said. It was the largest search in Burbank in 20 years, said Capt. Denis Cremins of the Burbank Police Department. Ivens has been with the FBI for more than three years and before that spent eight years with the Los Angeles Police Department. Ivens, an avid hiker, left his house on foot. Bloodhounds tracked his scent toward the Verdugo Mountains, Gomez said. Officials are also searching other areas of the county. They do not believe Ivens is a danger to anyone but himself, but they warned people not to approach him if they spot him and urged people to call authorities. Ivens is white, 6-feet tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has receding brown hair and wears prescription glasses, according to a police report. Gavin Smith Missing: 20th Century Fox Executive Disappears In Los Angeles The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department as put out a missing persons alert for Gavin Smith, a longtime 20th Century Fox employee. Smith disappeared Tuesday and has not been seen or heard from since. Smith has worked in Fox's distribution department for 18 years and is based in Calabasas, California. Police say there is no reason to believe any trouble preceded Smith's disappearance, and that he was last seen driving his Mercedes-Benz near his family's home.
