  • Film question for older Dataloungers

Would you consider the general quality of Hollywood films to be at an all-time low?

  • You'll find this amusing, no matter what your party affiliation!

Why do only Right-wing Republicans say this, and then proceed to share an offensive, elitist or racist joke?

Where is it? Nothing has been built or even started, except that most of the track between Chicago and St. Louis was upgraded...but only to a 110mph standard and WITHOUT urban connections in St. Louis, Chicago, and Springfield.

  • NAACP backs gay marriage

The board of the NAACP, one of the nation’s oldest and largest African American advocacy organizations, has passed a resolution supporting gay marriage in the wake of President Obama’s public endorsement of same-sex unions. “The mission of the NAACP has always been to ensure the political, social and economic equality of all people,” board chair Roslyn M. Brock said in a statement following passage of the resolution on Saturday. “We have and will oppose efforts to codify discrimination into law.” The chairman emeritus, Julian Bond, had already pledged his support earlier this week as part of a coalition of black leaders trying to tamp down speculation that Obama’s support of gay marriage would divide the black community. The resolution and statement Saturday specifically noted that the group supports “civil marriage” for same sex couples, while respecting religious freedom -- something the president also mentioned when announcing his stance. “Civil marriage is a civil right and a matter of civil law,” NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous said in the statement. “The NAACP’s support for marriage equality is deeply rooted in the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution and equal protection of all people.” The group has taken public stances against discrimination based on sexual orientation in the past. The NAACP opposed Proposition 8 in California, the federal Defense of Marriage Act, and more recently, Amendment 1 in North Carolina.

  • Is it wrong that I'm hoping the FaceBook stock launch will be a big dudd?

No doubt they're going to make a mountain of money, but all this hype, and no doubt Zuckerberg's private expectations they'll sell billions and billions on opening week, I just hope it deflates. FaceBook has only become weirder, scarier, riskier..and they produce absolutely nothing tangible.

  • I was reading a new article pertaining to James Franco's film about River Phoenix...

and the article mentioned that Joaquin Phoenix requested that Franco not show the film anymore. What is with the Phoenix family? Are they the biggest bullshitters since the Kardashians? Is it all about money with them? What exactly are they ashamed of? Are they ashamed of River? Quoting from the article... "In reality, Phoenix and Reeves (who also co-starred in "I Love You to Death") were incredibly close and this is abundantly clear when watching the film. Franco's "My Own Private River" adds a brand new take (literally) on the dynamic between the two. "...In a question-and-answer session following the film, Franco revealed that his original cut was 12 hours long. That version is now being kept from the public at the request of Joaquin Phoenix (River's Oscar-nominated brother). For now, the film has been shelved but for a few exclusive showings. Franco has no plans to distribute the film as he does not want to compete with the original or face legal action from New Line Cinema, which distributed 'Idaho'...." Now anyone with a thinking brain knows that River was deeply in love with Keanu...20 years later, it still has to be a secret?
